Ya I said it… if you tweet, I’ll vote for you.

It’s no big “light bulb idea” when people say that integrated use of social media is the BIG thing for individuals, businesses, corporations, and yes even for the government. But is it a light bulb idea that minorities favor government who use social media? 

According to a study done by Pew Life and American Life Project, its TRUE. The study shows that minorities are more likely to express positive attitudes towards  government who are engaged in social media.


For me, its not so much being ONLINE  and tweeting. I know you could easily get a PR person to do that for you, and 1/2 the time it is PR recommendations. I know that. … but by being online and being actively involved in different social media platforms gives me a chance to get to know who the official running is as an individual. Outside of being a democrat or a republican, I get to see what you are up to, involved in, or simple hobbies and interestes that I could relate to… and maybe thats what it takes sometimes for me to get to know you, like you, trust you, and then listen to your “ideas to change the world.” Its your ONE chance to gain credibility in my eyes. You may think I am ONE vote, but then there is this thing called word-of-mouth.


Simply said, if you aren’t on social media and running for government, I won’t know you and come voting time I won’t vote for you. But I don’t know if thats a minority thing, or a social media junkie thing.

Social Media Excites Me. The evolution from friendster to twitter and how brands use them, how is that NOT exciting?? So when I ran across this, I had to post it! If Social Media was a High School these are the titles they would graduate with! This was just a fun and creative picture I ran across on a friend’s blog and it really describes very perfectly how social media is seen… and in a way how social media is used!  Twitter very much allows people to gossip without looking like gossip. FaceBook very much is the well-loved website, but feared because of how much our privacy is questioned.. aka the jock! TUMBLR AS THE COMPULSIVE DOCUMENTER!!! Stumbleupon as the procrastinator, LinkedIn as Class President, Yelp as the debater, Google as the prep and Wikipedia as the nerd… LOL-Funny! Its so on point its hard to argue…. the only thing disappointing about this is that groupon and living social isn’t on it, they very much would be in the class of 2011 social media! Graduated and succeeded.

The Voice, with celebs Christina, Adam, Cee Lo, and Blake has hooked the attention of many viewers! What I love most about the show is how interactive and connected they are to social media. It’s actually the first show I have seen use new media so effectively. During the entire show, they post live tweets of what viewers are saying / thinking! It really shows how advanced television networks are becoming, and sets the bar pretty high for other shows! This past Tuesday, it really caught me attention how they were using Twitter so well and had a room dedicated to looking at twitter posts and allowing the singers to answer questions! It really allows the audience to get involved and pick a team they like… #teamAdam! Which team do you like?

A scary victory… exploded

Last night, at approximately 9 p.m. I found out that Osama bin Laden was confirmed dead. The terrorist that scared terrorists is now dead. COMFORTING and a victory indeed. But I would be lying if I didn’t say I was scared about Pakistan and US becoming vulnerable to future attacks of violence.

Obama addressed the nation an hour later and spoke of how he realized bin Laden was in Pakistan months prior and with the support of the Pakistani government, 6 unnamed men were able to capture the deadliest man I have ever read about… after Hitler. On that note, May 1, 1945 was when Hitler was confirmed dead and now on May 1, 2011 bin Laden is confirmed dead. I was really hoping Obama would have addressed national security last night in his address; however, I am positive that he secured reelection for 2012! Well-deserved.

So how did people find out about bin Laden’s death? 78% found out from TWITTER (and in second place was facebook with 7%) Whattup social media! 

According to USA Today, the first mention of bin Laden being dead was reported via Twitter and how Twitter exploded after that was beyond sensational. 

Within hours, there were more than 2.2 million mentions of bin Laden on Twitter — 1.5 million of them in the U.S., according to social-media analytics firm Sysomos. Twitter says its online traffic spiked to more than 4,000 Tweets per second at the beginning and end of President Obama’s speech. Indeed, bin Laden’s death had 13 times more mentions than the Royal Wedding…

Basketball season is slowly coming to an end… but not without crazy fans supporting their favorite and least favorite teams as they go into playoffs. Now, I am a Rockets fan, but they got the boot early in the picture (yes, they didn’t make it. cool.) This leaves me with just becoming a basketball fan and watching whatever game in hopes for a good fight.  I know its only Round 1, and boston is the only who has made it to conference semifinals right now, so it might be better to hold off any bets for whose going to make it to finals. But here is my list for semifinals: Chicago Bulls v. Atlanta Hawks Boston Celtics v. Miami Heat Spurs V. Nuggets - I have hope?!!? Mavs v. Lakers As soon as semifinals start, I’ll reel in my thoughts for conference finals! For now, this is pretty obvious list since semifinals is a game from being over BUT has anyone noticed the rise of athletes using social media for playoffs! Approximately half of the NBA players are on twitter…. The game’s biggest stars: Lebron, Shaq, Steve Nash are all on twitter… with the exception of Kobe Bryant #nowords. (Kobe wouldn’t understand that.) The NBA has nearly 2.5 million twitter followers who capture every moment of every game: the fights, the injuries, court side celebs, bad calls and everything imaginable allowing everyone to be “at the game” even if they can’t watch the game. That’s just with twitter - online streaming of 2 million views. Did I say million…. I MEANT BILLION from the NBA networks (ESPN, ABC, TNT… and oh ya… YouTube). The NBA is a fine example of using social media for your advantage… and that excites me more than round 1 of playoffs.
